LARGE GROUP CONTEST RESULTS (2014)
Vocal Force select choir (Class A four part - one of only two choirs in all of District 12 to attempt this level of difficulty)
Rating: I I*
Sample of comments from judges: "poised and professional"
*From Mr. Colaner: This has to be one of the greatest sounding "II's" ever! Despite being the smallest school to perform in our three county District 12, and despite typically rehearsing two days per week compared to the more standard five days per week, we were one of only six choirs to perform Class A music (the most difficult) and sang in four parts SATB (only one other Class A choir sang their required song in more than three parts). This allowed us to unleash a rich, full, well-rounded sound. I received multiple unsolicited comments from total strangers, including two event officials, about how wonderful we sounded. Two of those people suggested that we were possibly the most enjoyable choir they had heard that day, and they had heard many due to the fact that we performed around 9:30pm - second to last of all choirs, as I recall!
And here is one more perspective on how prestigious it is to receive even a "II": both I's and II's are considered worthy of being posted for all to see and admire. In 2012, the last year state-wide postings were available, in all of Ohio only 10 Class A choirs listed on the OMEA website received a "I", and only 8 received a "II." That would seem to imply that Xenia Christian may have one of the top 20 middle school contest choirs in the state. (To be fair, it is entirely possible that some districts did not report their ratings to the state, so there may be more of these elite choirs than is evident from the OMEA website. But still, it seems that we must be right up there with the "big dogs"....)

"Ladies and Gentlemen, Great job on this song. You made music. All the elements were there - expression, rhythm, blend...it was THERE!" (emphases were hers)
As you can see, this has been a blessed day for our middle school musicians. Congratulations to each of you, and all praise be to our God Jesus Christ to whom we dedicate every rehearsal.
